The first thoughts of creating a sorority different from those existing first came to Lisa Schuman in September of 2000. A transfer student to the University of Southern California, she was disappointed that there wasn’t a historically Jewish sorority on campus. Lisa asked the University and USC’s Hillel to help her begin one. After meeting with four other interested and motivated women at the University on November 6, 2000, the group began laying the groundwork for what has become USC’s only historically Jewish sorority. These Founding Mothers - Lisa Schuman Arnold, Jennifer Lowenstein Gerson, Melissa Orkin, Stefanie Shulman Cutler, and Renee Schuman - began planning our sorority’s first event and named us Alpha Gamma Gamma.

On November 28, the first event took place and support from the women on campus proved that AGG had a bright future at USC. The first initiated class was comprised of twenty girls!

Alpha Gamma Gamma became an associate member of USC’s Panhellenic Council in 2001 with hopes of one day affiliating with a nationally recognized Panhellenic sorority. In 2007, our dream came true when we affiliated with Sigma Delta Tau.
